Originally from a small village in Nepal, Thapa was living her American dream as an international student at CCBC Catonsville—until it turned into a nightmare on Jan. 24.

While heading home, Thapa was struck by a car in a hit-and-run accident that left her with multiple fractures, a brain injury, and a broken urinary bladder that required emergency surgery, according to the Baltimore Association of Nepalese in America (BANA).

After three grueling weeks in the hospital and multiple surgeries, she was discharged. But her journey is far from over.

“She came here to help others. Now she needs our help,” BANA wrote in a GoFundMe set up to support her recovery.

"Samikshya is in urgent need of support for daily living expenses, including rent and basic needs—all while having no family members in the US to assist her."

The fundraiser had raised more than $10,000 of its $20,000 goal as of Thursday, Feb. 20.

"BANA is committed to helping Samikshya through this challenging time, but we need your support," organizers said. "Your donation, no matter the amount, will help cover her basic living expenses so she can regain her strength and continue her studies at CCBC Catonsville to fulfill her dream of becoming a nurse.

“Together, we can make a difference in her life.”
